Aunt Dorthen aleksandrite ring by LARvonCL Aunt Dorthen aleksandrite ring by LARvonCL
EDIT: Thanks to *tj1985 for fixing the picture for me! It looks alot better now, thank you! BTW, you should all check out his awesome photographs!

Finaly done! I've been working on this ring for many many weeks now and I'm finaly done!

This ring have been one of my goals for a very long time now, just because of the stone. My mothers aunt, Dorthen as we called her had this amazing ring in white gold with diamonds and a great aleksandrite stone in the midle. It didn't look anything like this, actually, I can't remember how it looked...

When aunt Dorthen died, my aunt inherited the aleksandrite ring and my mother got this yellow gold ring with a big pearl...not a fair trade in my eyes... But my aunt didn't wish to trade for my mother so I could have the ring...

After I started studying goldsmithing, I wanted to make my own aleksandrite ring, and after buying this great and expencive rock and watching ~wibbledile's amazingly rings, I asked her if I could use her rings as inspiration and it kicked me into work!

Here's the result, I am pretty pleased with it, even tho I know I could have done it better...but I guess that's how it will always be... It's made of silver with 26 cubic zirconias set in it as well as one aleksandrite.

I'll be taking my final exams next week and hopefully become a real goldsmith with the diploma! Cross your fingers for me!

Don't you mean Alexandrite? I'm sure there is nothing called "aleksandrite". Alexandrite itself is incredible expensive. More expensive than Diamond actually. And nice quality ones will cost you a few thousand a carat. Lab made ones are pretty much the one ones you can get now. I'm going to guess and say you're getting your "goldsmith" certificate at GIA? I wouldn't advise that if I were you. Getting a certificate from a school doesn't make you a goldsmith. Working for years in the industry does. But, nice ring overall.

First of, I'm Norwegian, here the stone is called Aleksandrite so excuse me, and no, it is not real. I never stated that it was real and I know how expencive they are.
Second, I'm still Norwegian and over here we do get our goldsmith certificate, or as we call it "svennebrev" at schools and I'm just as much a goldsmith as you are. So don't you dare call me anything but a goldsmith.
Third, this is a 5 year old jewellery, I have worked several years within the industry under different goldsmith Masters and I've now opened my own little shop.
But, thanks for the comment overall.

I apologize if I came off as offensive. I was just curious. That's interesting that it's different in Norway!

Thank you ^^ That's what I thought when I first saw the ring I took the inspiration from. My aunt said to me that the stones in the ring were also in the King's crown here in Norway :P

Thank you, but sadly, the Norwegian postoffice doesn't allow sending gold, silver or gemstones outside of this country anymore =( I'd love to do your commissions but I can't send them to you, I'm sorry

I didn't know there were such restrictions! Regardless of this, I still think your creations are wonderful. I'll just have to admire them from afar :P.

Thank you once again ^^ Yeah, it sucks, and it seems that it's new rules as well cause I've been selling my jewelries to other countries before...
